Copyright infringement lawsuit against Pfizer Moderner |
Moderna has filed a lawsuit against the US company Pfizer and its German partner BioEntech for copyright infringement in the development of the corona vaccine. American biotech company Moderna has alleged that Pfizer has copied their 'mRNA' technology. They invented this technology before the corona pandemic.
According to a BBC report, Moderna has filed a lawsuit in the United States and Germany seeking financial compensation. However, the company has not specified the amount of financial compensation sought. Meanwhile, Pfizer has said that they are surprised by this incident. They will fight against this charge.
In a statement on Friday, Moderna announced the filing of the case. The company claims that Pfizer and BioEntech have copied two elements of their intellectual property. One is the material called 'chemical modification', which was applied to humans by modern researchers in 2015. This prevents the vaccine from provoking an unwanted immune response. Another is the technique by which vaccines target specific spike proteins outside the virus.
"We filed this lawsuit to protect our innovative mRNA technology platform," said Stephen Bansel, Moderna's CEO. We are ahead of everyone in this technology. Billions of dollars have been invested in it and we took ownership of it a few years before the corona pandemic.
